Planned Professional Sports Stadiums and Arenas: New Chicago Bears Stadium
BuildCentral tracks planned construction across all verticals, and planned pro sports stadiums/arenas are no exception. We’re tracking various planned pro sports stadium projects, as well as the companies and decision-makers behind them. Plus, we analyze the construction impact on other nearby developments. Here’s all the data we have on the new Chicago Bears stadium.
Soldier Field, a multipurpose stadium which seats 61,500, has served as the home venue for the Chicago Bears since 1971. Soldier Field was opened in 1924 and reconstructed in 2003, making the current stadium quite dated. Bears chairman George H. McCaskey said, “Our founder, George Halas, emphasized the importance of being a champion for Chicago. This has been part of the foundation of our organization. That is why we are excited to invest in the greatest city in the world through a stadium project and site improvements that will benefit Chicagoans and visitors.”
The $3.2 billion new stadium will be located just south of the current Soldier Field on Museum Campus. The goal is for the stadium, which will seat about 70,000 fans, to be ready in time for the 2028 season. With the new stadium comes new construction and infrastructure projects around it, which we’ll get to shortly.

As previously mentioned, the Bears hope to have the new stadium completed by the 2028 season. The Bears are planning to pitch in $2 billion for the stadium and will receive a $300 million loan from the NFL. The team has yet to reach an agreement with Illinois state to have taxpayers cover the rest, but negotiations are ongoing.
